His All-Holiness was in Imbros from October 8–10, 2016, for the 14th anniversary since the enthronement of His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, as well as to convey his blessings and prayers to the professors and students of the minority schools exactly one year after he had blessed the newly constructed high school building in the village of Agridia, and to be present for the ordination of a new deacon for the Holy Metropolis of Imbros and Tenedos, the Rev. Prokopios Malliaris.
On Saturday evening, His All-Holiness attended vespers at the Church of Saint Marina in the village of Schinoudi, with His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos presiding over the service and then conducting the rassoforia for the candidate to the deaconate, who has served as a chanter on the island for many years. The ordination took place Sunday morning during the Divine Liturgy, which was celebrated by Metropolitan Kyrillos along with all of the clergy of Imbros in the Metropolitan Church, the Dormition of the Theotokos. The Patriarch was present, praying in the Altar, and at the conclusion of the service, before the distribution of the antidoron, he congratulated the newly ordained deacon by expressing his paternal love and the particular place in his heart for the faithful of his home island. He also explained the reason for bestowing the name Prokopios, which signifies progress, on the new deacon; it is a fitting name that reflects a bright vision for the future of the people living on beloved Imbros.
Following the ordination celebrations, His All-Holiness had the opportunity to visit the Archangels Michael and Gabriel Church near the village of Glyky, a dependency of the Koutloumousiou Monastery from Mount Athos, that is currently being restored. It was at this sacred site that the enlighteners of Imbros, the ever-memorable Bartholomew and Kyrillos Koutloumousians the Imbrians, laid the foundations of an educational system for the island during the beginning of the 19th century. It is noteworthy that His All-Holiness and His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos bear the same names in honor of these devout and erudite forefathers of their home island.
On the third and final day of the trip, Monday, October 10, 2016, His All-Holiness visited the elementary school of his home village, Saints Theodore. The Patriarch paid a courtesy visit to the Regional Governor, Mr. Muhittin Gürel. After a farewell lunch offered by Metropolitan Kyrillos, His All-Holiness departed the island for the Phanar.
