Communicates with the Patriarch of Antioch and Extends the Condolences of the Ecumenical Patriarchate
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew expressed the deep sorrow of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and his own personal grief over the victims of the terrorist attack on the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah in Dwel’a, Damascus, Syria, during a telephone conversation with His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch, on Sunday evening.
Currently visiting the United Kingdom, the Ecumenical Patriarch unequivocally condemned the bombing of the Greek Orthodox Church, underscoring that every act of terrorism – especially when directed against places of worship – is, in essence, an assault on the peaceful coexistence of peoples, religions, and cultures.
His All-Holiness prayed that the All-Merciful God may grant rest to the souls of the innocent victims of the attack, and requested His Beatitude to convey his heartfelt condolences and support to their families. He also extended his wishes for the swift recovery of those who were injured.
