Your Eminence, beloved brother in Christ,
Archbishop Spyridon of America,
Your Grace, beloved brother in Christ, Bishop Isaiah of Denver,
Beloved children in the Lord,
We express our abiding gratitude and appreciation to you, Bishop Isaiah, and to all of your faithful and worthy co-workers here in the Diocese of Denver, and especially the great city of Dallas. We thank you for your most cordial welcome and hospitality to our person and our honorable synodia. Your kind words, the care manifested by this banquet, and your spirit of friendship, reveal the essence of your reverence and love for the Ecumenical Patriarchate. We also wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who have gathered to share in this joyful occasion.
It brings great fatherly joy to our heart and soul, to hear about all the wonderful programs the Denver Diocese has implemented for her faithful. Since our arrival here yesterday, we have seen, in every person we have encountered, the profound dedication and love of our Orthodox Church. The people of this wonderful Diocese have a great sense of enthusiasm and motivation, not unlike those who originally settled the vast lands of this Diocese far more than a century ago.
This hospitality we enjoy together has always been an Orthodox Christian virtue, from the most ancient of times, reaching as far back as the visit of the Three Angels to the Patriarch Abraham (cf. Genesis 18:1-8). Sharing in a common table, during which we bless and break of bread, serves to remind us of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only true Bread of Life.
Here in the blessed Diocese of Denver, which is guided by its vigilant and enlightened shepherd, His Grace Bishop Isaiah, you strive to live in righteousness. You have learned to live by a genuine Orthodox Christian phronema, which you have inherited from the traditions of your spiritual ancestors. You are committed to the sanctification and edification of this Diocese, always aiming at the uplifting and salvation of souls.
Beloved daughters and sons, you have inspired us with your progressive and forward thinking attitude. You are a shining example for the entire Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. In this festive year, when we commemorate the 75th anniversary of our beloved Daughter Church, you have much to celebrate. Surely our Lord is pleased with your works.
We commend you, our beloved spiritual children, for your abiding faith to honor, defend and support the Holy Orthodox Church with all your heart and soul. Your efforts in supporting the Mother Church and Her divine mission to advocate unity, unconditional love, compassion, tolerance and peace among all nations and peoples are vital.
We thank you for your unflagging commitment and the many ways in which it is manifested, however great or small, for the small deeds are just as important to Christ as the greatest deeds. The Lord blessed those who give only a cup of water to the least of the brethren. Indeed, one of the most inspiring and saintly people of our time, Mother Teresa of blessed memory, once said, “Little things are indeed little, but to be faithful in little things is a great thing.” And who would have known this better than Mother Teresa. With a single offering of water to a parched and dying mouth, in her small way, she breathed life into the entire world.
May the Lord grant that this spirit of service and love grow and strengthen your faith more and more each day.
May the grace of God and His infinite mercy be with you always. Amen.
