On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew travelled from Geneva to Cairo, where he was hosted for dinner by the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Egypt, His Excellency Michael Diamessis, at the Greek Embassy. Today, April 27, 2017, His All-Holiness met with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, whom he thanked for the invitation to Egypt and informed about the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s contributions to interreligious dialogue, as well as its efforts to promote peace throughout the world.
The Patriarch then attended an Interreligious Conference at Al-Azhar University, where he delivered an address in English on the topic “Religions and Peace”.
